Since I'm Feeling Poetic...

How do I hate these pop-up ads?
Let me count the ways.
I hate them twice as many times
As US Airways has delays.

I hate them like Matt Lauer hates Cruise
And Cruise hates Prozac pills
I hate them as I hate “fake news,”
(The kind that FOX News spills.)

I hate them as a Hilton would hate a single-story house
I hate them as a Stilton hates the tooth marks of a mouse.

I hate them in a train or plane, just like Sam I Am
But I doubt I’d hate them any less if I sampled them with ham.

I don’t think I should feel such hate
So early in the day
But I can’t read the Times online
Without an ad display
I hate to leave in such a mood
(especially with the rain)
Blame it on the pop-up ads

Truly…what a pain.

PS: If anyone knows a simple way to get rid of Aurora, please fill me in.

Your poetry is truly inspirational. Theodor Geisel would have been proud (and as somewhat of a Dr. Seuss junkie myself, that's saying something.)

With regard to your Aurora problem.... there are several methods of getting rid of it. The easiest way is probably to use an uninstaller from mypctuneup.com. This was created by the people who also make Aurora and before you can run it, you must also click on an "I Agree" statement which said you wanted Aurora installed on your computer in the first place. Smarmy f'ers if you ask me - but from what I understand the program works. You can download it here.

If you have moral objections to all that, then you're stuck with a MUCH more difficult process. The author of the following article correctly points out that you should really know your way around a computer before following his instructions, but if that's the case you can find them here. Haven't attempted this myself, but it looks rather exhausting. Personally, I'd swallow my pride and go with the first option.

Or you could just reformat your hard drive.
But surely that move wouldn't jive,
With all the poems that you write!
You write the poems every night!
How can y....

Nevermind, I'll leave the poetry to you. Good Luck.

I tried mypctuneup, but the links wouldn't work for me. Maybe I'll try it again, once I go on unemployment.

Thanks for the anonymous aid, though. I assume this was Brian?

Sigh.

Oh alright - screw the anonymity. I was just trying to be trendy. I'm not Brian - just a fellow blogger who was directed to this here site by a mutual friend.

Anyway - sorry to screw up the link. Try clicking here and see if that works.

Hopefully that should do you well. A word of warning though - apparently when you run the uninstaller it does indeed remove Aurora, but now instead of making you click the "I Agree" statement, it instead connects to the bad guys' servers and gives them information about your machine, such as computer and user names and what software is installed. I'd probably still do it because I hate popups enough to reulctantly give up that information. You may feel differenly, however. Also, if you aren't doing so already, might I suggest using a different browser such as Firefox? It has an excellent pop-up blocker and is also great at avoiding spyware.

I'll try it, Eric -- thanks. I've been known to lurk on your blog, too. Sounds like you're the Tech Guy of the Week.

Well, since Eric stepped up to the plate so ably just to have you assume his post was from me, I feel compelled to offer some help too. (I also still owe you a links list -- I'll take care of that as soon as I'm done here.)

I'm not familiar with Aurora, but I like to run two anti-Spyware programs to keep things relatively clean. One is SpyBot Search and Destroy, and the other one is Ad-Aware. Both are available as free downloads. Between them, they take care of most Spyware problems you're likely to have.

Good hunting -- and Happy Moving! (yeah, right.)
